Over the course of a parent/teacher conference, a grieving mother and an emotionally overwhelmed primary school teacher have a fraught conversation about the tragic suicide of the mother’s son, Gidion. Gidion may have been bullied severely—or he may have been an abuser. As his story is slowly uncovered, the women try to reconstruct a satisfying explanation for Gidion’s act and come to terms with excruciating feelings of culpability.
Content warning: contains discussion of suicide.
GIDION'S KNOT is presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing, LLC, servicing the Dramatists Play Service collection.

SARAH M. MANKOWSKI-LATHRUM is thrilled to be making her Sunstone Studios debut in this compelling drama. As an active member of Milwaukee Irish Arts, Ms. Mankowski-Lathrum acted in more than 20 productions, including Legends and Folktales of the Celtic Tiger, Good Medicine, Thirst, Eclipsed, The Spraying of John O’Dorey, Da, The Brown Man, Purgatory, The Broken Jug and, most recently, Julia Elizabeth. Her favorite roles are – among others - Martha Connor in the Midwest debut of Dan O’Brien’s An Irish Play (Best Actress nomination, Acting Irish International Theatre Festival 2006), Maise in A Galway Girl and the title role in Brian Friel’s Molly Sweeney. Before returning to her hometown in 2011, she starred in several community theater productions throughout Connecticut, including her “it’s a long way from Broadway” debut as Gertrude Deuter in Steve Martin’s The Underpants in White Plains, NY. She dedicates this performance to her newlywed husband, Matt, her dear friends and family, including her Aunt Mary (1942-2022), who will be “watching from the wings.”
Caroline Norton (She/Her) is thrilled to be making her directing debut with this heart-wrenching play and this inspiring team of women. Caroline is an actor, teaching artist, and now director who has worked all over the Milwaukee area with Sunstone Studios, Summit Players Theatre, First Stage, Skylight Music Theatre, Voices Found Repertory, Forte Theatre Company, and the Milwaukee Black Theatre Festival. Caroline was trained at Marquette University where she was first introduced to Gidion’s Knot (thank you, John Schneider) and is proud to share this story with you all. Special thanks to her partner A.J. and her dog Boomer even though he has no clue what a play is. To see what Caroline is up to next, visit her website at www.carolinegracenorton.com
